Reds RHP Belisle has knee surgery

ASSOCIATED PRESS

12:22 p.m. August 19, 2008

CINCINNATI – Reds right-hander Matt Belisle is done for the season after having surgery on his right knee.

Belisle had a torn ligament repaired on Tuesday, his second major injury of the season. Belisle competed for the final spot in the rotation during spring training, but developed a sore forearm that sidelined him until mid-April.

Belisle made six starts for the Reds and went 1-4 with a 7.28 ERA. The Reds sent him to Triple-A Louisville in May to ready him for a role as a reliever, but he never made it back to the big leagues.
