As expected, the Chargers have released receiver Eric Parker.

“My time spent in San Diego, it's been a good time,” Parker said this afternoon. “Everyone has been good to me. It was a great run for me.”

Sources said last month the team would release or trade Parker before training camp, which begins Friday for veterans, and his agent has been working on securing a job for Parker. It is unclear where he will land, though several teams have expressed interest.

Parker's agent, Jack Bechta, said his client is "not 100 percent" and will hold off visiting prospective teams. Whoever signs him likely will do so at a discount from the $1.85 million he was due to make this year. Parker was signed through 2010 on a deal he signed in 2006.

His high salary (for a No. 3 receiver), a toe injury that kept him out last season and might hamper him further, and the Chargers' abundance of receivers facilitated his release.

Even missing the entire 2007 season, Parker's 170 receptions since 2003 rank third on the team behind Antonio Gates and LaDainian Tomlinson. Parker was also the Chargers' primary punt returner from 2004-06.

Parker had surgery on his right big toe in October. He ran and did other drills during the spring but did not participate in minicamp or offseason coaching sessions.

Parker is healthy enough to play and will pass any physical with another team, according to several people with knowledge of his health.
